Academy award winning actress Hilary Swank is putting her best foot forward trying to raise awareness for a very worthy cause: animal shelters.

I’m so glad to see a celebrity like Swank really caring about dogs, and not just geting her picture taken in the nude or something for the PETA! Hil is out there getting dogs adopted, becuase she remembers what it was like to have no home and live in a car. Now she is rich and famous, but rather than get posh dogs from a breeder, she adopted two rescue dogs:
“Shelters are full of loving dogs. They just want to be loved, and in return, give love.” The actress is featured in a poster with her own rescue dogs, Karoo, 6, and Rumi, who is almost 2.

The dogs are “blessings” that the two-time Oscar winner cherishes. “They bring so much joy into my life,” Swank, an animal lover from childhood, tells WHO. “I found Karoo in South Africa. I was doing a scene for a film (2004’s Red Dust), where I hopped over a fence. On the second take, I hopped over the fence again, and there she was, looking up at me. She was just this little fluff ball.” Rumi, named for Pakistan’s national poet, was adopted from the East Valley Animal Shelter in Los Angeles.

Says Swank: “My dogs are completely different, but what they have in common is unconditional love. They know I’ve saved their life.”
